Ingrid Brown

Hello! I’m Ingrid, an artist and writer, with an M.A. in art and architectural history. I frequently explore life’s journey through words and paintings, often rooted in observations of nature.

For me, writing – like painting – is not so much a practice as a way of life. I approach both through expression and emotion, drawing out feelings and experiences to reflect on memory and on the resonance between what we encounter in the natural world and what we carry within ourselves. Writing is a way of being present, of giving form to feelings, and of paying attention to life.

I am drawn to Mary Oliver’s poems, which show her attentive presence and the way she holds both clarity and mystery in her descriptions of the natural world. Her work continues to deepen my continuous exploration of presence, belonging, and wonder.

I love the raison d'être behind The Poetry Lighthouse, to “connect, inspire, and create meaningful experiences”, along with the analogy of the lighthouse itself, “illuminating the vast expanse of literary horizons and beaconing in an ocean-full of stories and passionate writers”.  It is wonderful to see people’s feelings emerge in written form, and editing enables me to join authors on their journey to create pieces that resonate and connect with readers’ emotions. It is a privilege to help bring out their best potential and whereby they, in turn, refine my own.

My writing has appeared in several academic journals and commercial publications, and I have been involved in various editing and proofreading roles over the years. Most recently (2025) I have written for Aspier Magazine, Wild Roof Journal, Earth Spirit and Thistle & Thread Press. Editing provides a wonderful opportunity for me to give back the experience I have gleaned over time, to others.

Beyond writing, I love walking, lying under trees, sketching, baking, sharing drinks, food and laughter with friends, and spending time in nature alone.  These activities feed into my writing and painting, all of which come together to form a wonderfully meaningful and purposeful life.
