Hilda Kalap

Hilda Kalap is a UK poet who has been writing since she was a child.

After completing a BA(Hons) in English she spent a couple of decades working in journalism and public relations, including three years at the Red Cross, where she was part of a global campaign to ban landmines spearheaded by Princess Diana.

After living in India for two years Hilda moved to New Zealand where she was accepted onto the acclaimed creative writing course at Victoria University’s Institute of Modern Letters.

Meeting fellow poets was an inspiration. One of her favourite poets is in fact someone she met on the course – Hera Lindsay Bird. Hilda also likes the poetry of TS Eliot, Sylvia Plath and Nikita Gill.

Her favourite authors are Joseph Conrad, Dostoevsky and Thomas Hardy.

Hilda has published three picture books, a memoir, contributed poems to several anthologies and written a chapter on compassionate leadership for a business book.

Her books can be found here: https://hildakalapspeaker.com/books/

When she’s not writing or reading her poetry at festivals and other events you can find her walking on beaches or winding her way around the tors of Dartmoor near her home in Devon.
