Corey Mesler

Hello.

My name is Corey and I am a poet, fictionist, screenwriter, scamp, bookseller, reader, husband, father, grandfather and pickleball player. I have published in many journals and anthologies, including Poetry, Gargoyle, Good Poems, American Places, and New Stories from the South. I have published over fifty volumes of poetry and prose. My favorite writers of fiction include Iris Murdoch, Vladimir Nabokov, Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, Walker Percy, Donald Barthelme, Steve Stern, and Virginia Woolf. My favorite versifiers include Mark Strand, W. B. Yeats, W. S. Merwin, Anne Sexton, James Tate, William Carlos Williams, and Charles Simic. I also love movies, especially Bergman, Fellini, Godard, Woody Allen, Alfred Hitchcock, and Robert Altman. I have two children who have already outstripped me in talent and charm, two granddaughters born under the Sign of Virtuosity, and a border collie who is currently reading Proust in French. I write to find how what happens between two periods. With my wife, I own Burke’s Book Store (est. 1875) in Memphis TN.
