Fuga

Hello readers!

My pen name is Fuga, although I go by Zofia in everyday life. I am from Poland, specifically Warsaw and have previously been published in the debut magazine AVE, as well as in Polish literary and artistic magazines (Tlen Literacki #16, Wyspa, Girls and queers to the front). When I am not writing poetry, I study psychology in English at the University of Warsaw. I am interested in neurodiversity and the experience of ostracism and social exclusion connected to different neurological profiles. At university, I try to work towards increasing rights and support for neurodiverse people and use that knowledge to spread awareness. I am also interested in minority politics and the evolution of global politics.

Since elementary school, I have been passionate about poetry and writing, which to me, has always been the most liberating art form. I believe that the plasticity of language gives us the opportunity to express things beyond the sensory experience and touch the deepest corners of the soul. When it comes to poetry, I love reading Halina Poświatowska and Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński. I also really like reading fiction and nonfiction — I recently got into the prose of Stanisław Lem. I am currently reading “Astronauts” and falling in love with his take on philosophy and science fiction. In addition, I read a lot of scientific literature on the autism spectrum condition and social theories of disability. Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński's poems are special to me, because of their unique sensitivity to sensory perception, as well as their flowery, emotional language that often brings me to tears. With Lem I stimulate my philosophical and futurological thinking, but scientific literature fascinates me specifically, because of its potential for driving social change and the good we can do with our current knowledge. I would like us to one day be better at understanding the differences in our individual neurology.

You could say that my biggest hobbies are art and science. I love interacting with visual, literary, and performing arts. Drawing and painting are the best forms of meditation for me. Thank you, Poetry Lighthouse, for the opportunity to share my work in an international environment and for the opportunity to participate in heartfelt publishing.
