Nicola Hester

Nicola Hester is a writer from Burnley in the North of England who enjoys reading, travel and playing the violin in local orchestras and ensemble groups. Her winning poem ‘Days Long Lost’ was published in the Literary Lancashire Award Anthology 2020 (Beaten Track Publishing) and CAKE Magazine (issue 12 - July 2020) along with her shortlisted short story ‘View with Room’. Her short story ‘Thursday's Children’ was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize in 2019 and poem ‘A Pendle Winter Solstice’ was published in the first edition of Burnley Viewpoint online magazine (December 2024). Nicola's passion for writing and reading led to the completion of MA Creative Writing at Greenwich University, London (2012-13), before following the beacon call of the North back home. To name just a small selection of many, favourite writers span from: Virginia Woolf to Eimear McBride, Max Porter and Megan Hunter and specific to poetry, Emily Berry and Jenni Fagan. It is a pleasure to join the fabulous group of writers and contributors to The Poetry Lighthouse.
