Fujiwara Akiko
Fujiwara Akiko is a native of Kyoto, where she was born in 1974. She has published four book-length poems in Japanese:
Dobutsu no Shufuku (Animal restoration) (Kamakura: Minato no Hito, 2019), which received the Museum of Contemporary Japanese Poetry, Tanka and Haiku Prize in the poetry category; an other mimicry (Tokyo: Shoshi Yamada, 2013), which received the Hanatsubaki Prize;
Pho to n, (Tokyo: Shichosha, 2007);
and Otozureru Koe (Visitor Voice) (Tokyo: Shoshi Yamada, 2005), which received the Rekitei Shin’ei Prize.
Outside Japan, Fujiwara participated in the 2014 Seoul International Writers’ Festival and the 2017 Romania Poetry Festival as invited guest poet. She has produced the private poetry magazine Canalis since 2007 and has participated in reading-performance unit Higgaion Selah since 2019. Fujiwara accommodates frequent requests from artists for poetry and prose for inclusion in exhibition catalogs and other publications. She is also active as a reviewer.
