Il corpo nudo della guerra ha borse
di sabbia sugli occhi.

Il sibilo dei carri armati
non attraversa il cuore, né le orecchie.

Non c'è fango più nero
dei leader sugli altari del potere;
ne trovarono uno
– già cadavere –
su un trono di paglia
con una mano vuota
che stringeva la gloria
e l'altra che indicava una puttana.

The naked body of war has bags
of sand over its eyes.

The hiss of tanks
does not pass the heart, nor the ears.

No mud is blacker
than the leaders on the altars of power;
they found one
—already a corpse—
on a straw throne
with one empty hand
clutching glory
and the other pointing to a whore.
