Christmas in May

It was mid-May, and I received

some of the strangest looks

when wishing someone a Merry Christmas

as I walked around in the neighborhood,

but it wasn’t me that was the strange one,

it was they who still had

Christmas lights up on their house,

and I was just trying to keep

up with their Christmas spirit.

There may not have been any mistletoe

still hanging in plain sight,

but I had no plans to kiss anyone either.

I wasn’t one to shout “Ho, ho, ho”.

That I would leave to Santa

the next time he came around for a visit.

Maybe I should have stayed quiet, and instead,

sung ‘Silent Day’, a sequel to ‘Silent Night’.
