Helen Newdick

Helen is originally from Oxford UK, but currently lives and writes on the Isle of Bute in Scotland. Her two novels, poetry, short stories and flash fiction have been shortlisted or longlisted for Fish, Bath, Free Flash Fiction, Mslexia, and Jericho Writers writing awards.

Compared with the marathon slog of writing two novels, Helen is currently loving the short, sharp sprint of writing flash fiction, which almost feels like writing free-form poetry, with its reliance on ambiguity, omission and implication. She is fascinated by the dynamics of passion: those precise moments of getting it together, or not; and the often wry moments too, of confusion and defiance surrounding love gone wrong. One of her flash fiction piece Life needs a 3D printer was recently published on the Free Flash Fiction website. Another flash fiction pieces, Lou Rakish, will be included in the Bath Anthology this year. She plans to publish a selection of her 300-word flash fiction pieces as a collection, with the working title Fleet Eros.
