Sylvie Greil

Hi! My name is Sylvie and I was born and raised in Germany. My adopted home is Los Angeles, where I work as a marketing copywriter. Literature and poetry have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I wrote constantly as a kid — sometimes to entertain people, but more often to make sense of the world and myself, which I still do to this day.

I have far too many favorite writers to pick even a top five, but lately I’ve been especially drawn to the work of Clarice Lispector, Dorothea Lasky, Ottessa Moshfegh, Eve Babitz, and Anne Sexton.

Even though I read a lot, most of my inspiration comes from music, film, art, Los Angeles life, and simple everyday moments — the way the light filters through blinds, or a person I spot pushing a cart in the grocery store. I seek adventure, but I’m increasingly content with a calm, peaceful, and beautifully mundane life.

When I’m not reading or writing, I love taking road trips — often solo — to the desert, wandering through art galleries, trying my hand at abstract painting, and spending time with friends who feel like family.
