I was born and raised in Hyde, a small mill (cotton) town on the edge of Manchester. I now live in Kilburn, London. I'm widely published. The biggest influences are North American - big fan of Elizabeth Bishop, Marianne Moore - but I love the French, Apollinaire in particular, and Modern Arab poetry. The English writers, Basil Bunting and Geoffrey Hill mean a lot to me. The poet I read more than any other is Wallace Stevens. You can cut, add or amend anything I say about myself. I forgot to mention the East Europeans .... but there's so many!
