Kit McGuire

Hi all - I'm Kit, I'm a multi-disciplinary writer and theatre-maker from the Midlands of England, currently based in London. My work includes fiction, essays, and poetry, and has been published and produced internationally. Across forms, I'm interested in exploring the idiosyncrasies of queer time; what life is without standardised milestones or family forms, how trauma induces the past to blur into the present, what it means to undergo puberty for a second time as an adult, conceptualising time as a place we can navigate. I'm also compelled by how visibly queer and disabled bodies occupy public spaces.

Most of my favourite poetry has been that which I've stumbled upon, so I like to keep myself open to every opportunity to engage with poetry. I read a lot of lit magazines and a lot of bathroom walls. Recent works which have moved me are Gemma Weekes' a verse story (Dying of) Thirst) - found in Glimpse (Peepal Tree, 2022) - many many poems by Ada Limón, and a poem on chronic pain written by a member of the Stanza workshop I attend.

When not focusing on poetry, I mainly write fictional prose and make theatre. I'm a co-founder of Seamoss Theatre, a new writing company based in East London which focuses on developing untold stories by queer and disabled writers. You can learn more about Seamoss on my website, where you can also find links to my other writing and directing work, and get in touch if you'd like: kitmcguire.co.uk
