Gordon Gibson
Hello, my name is Gordon Gibson, and I am a Scottish writer, living in East Lothian, by the estuary of the River Forth. I cannot remember a time when I was not fascinated by poems, rhymes, stories and word play, and as soon as I learned to write, I began to produce my own imitations of the pieces I enjoyed. I suppose I have been doing this, off and on, all of my life.
My developing love of literature, nurtured by the skills of some wonderful teachers, led me to study English and Scottish language and literature to Masters level, and to embark on a career teaching in Higher Education. I still found time to produce occasional stories and poems, but it was not until increasing disability forced me to retire that I was able to apply myself seriously to writing for publication.
Over the past dozen years I have had numerous poems and stories published in magazines, e-zines, and anthologies, and continue to submit work where I feel good editorial standards are in operation.
I have an enduring love of poetry and include among my especial favourite poets John Burnside, T. S. Eliot, Philip Larkin, Liz Lochhead, Norman MacCaig, Edwin Morgan and W. B. Yeats (although I discover splendid writers new to me on a daily basis, thanks to social media).
In my own work, I have tried to explore reactions to the natural world, the complexities of emotions in relationships within the family and beyond, and my own memories. I have used a range of language varieties, writing in Scots as well as Standard English.
Much of my published work can be read on my blog, The Rag Man’s Bugle at this address:
