What Remains

Bashful sun

in a grim sky.

A crust of frost

crocus bulbs

recently sown.

Who can tell

what the tubers

dream in dank soil?

Or how pain decides

what remains

in memory – a gift

waiting for the cup

of our compassion

to reveal its blossom.
