Today

She brought me flowers today

And placed them on the grass above where I lay.

A single tear rolled down her face,

As the gun shots in the distance gained pace.

She sat and wept beside me today,

Sad that my life had been lost this way.

Sad that this war showed no end in sight,

The bombs trying to wish the world goodnight.

She sat and spoke to me today,

Telling me her love won’t fade away.

Telling me sad stories of loss and despair,

Cities with people and buildings not there.

I watched her walk away today,

Knowing there was nothing left to say.

The time had come to say goodbye,

To move on with her life, she must try.
