Sonetta

I saw you

in the lavender field,

dress painted gold,

arms outstretched,

face tilted upward,

ready to slip away

with the song

of emerald hummingbirds.

Flash of sugar maple leaves,

a final symphony,

lifting you to the

sky lake of blue.

My river of words

will follow you.

(Sonetta is the feminine form of the word sonnet which means “little song” in Italian. A sonnet is typically a 14 line poem.)
