Reading Mary Oliver In The Chemo Room

I wonder what

Mary would say about

this place,

where death’s long

shadow

smokes out

every living thing.

But look how

the bodies slumped in

putty-colored chairs,

their white heads, like

dandelions,

lean as if they’re growing

toward the sun.
