If I Ever

If I ever forget,

remind me of how we loved,

and how well.

Remind me of how we fought,

and how much it hurt,

how we stood,

even when we couldn't find our roots.

Remind me of how we wept,

and where it all went.

And should I ever protest,

hold me still until my doubts are put to rest,

look me in the eyes until I see the truth,

hold my hands so it'll be hard to push

away your strength.

Keep me awake so my nightmares collide

with my dreams,

dreams where everything I lost,

were restored.

Now, darling, will you?
