Floating Down

Leaves waltzing away:

In the wheelchair by the door

A child dreams, smiling.

Leaves left to decay:

Kicking them up, an old man

Feels sudden remorse.

Leaves struggling to stay:

The earth cries out as the rake

Slices it open.

Leaves gather to pray:

For the snowflakes floating down

To meet the same fate.
