Eating Stars
My feet took me on a walk
down streets I didn’t recognise,
over bursts of concrete split
open by tree roots, venturing
further into the city.
I looked up at the moon
playing Pac-Man with the stars,
chomping them up one by one.
The path ahead of me dimmed
with each star consumed.
Through fields I press on molehills,
compacting their soil, trying to firm up
my thoughts.
Woven with intent, a spider web
stops me, raindrops trapped
in the sticky web.
Diamonds in the slowly dying glow.
In its fragility I realise
the light that is diminishing
Is the one within me.
Tender, like pushing on a bruise,
I wince.
